On Thursday night I popped in to the church in Layhams Road to watch a few hours of Jo’s 24 hour concert. Arranged in support of the charity Child Rescue Nepal Jo raised an incredible £12,757! While I was there I got chatting to two ladies who had met each other that day, when they joined a walk arranged by EnBro.
Town & country walks for the community
EnBro is a walking group which provides a great opportunity for people to get outdoors and explore – it helps you get fitter while making new friends at the same time. They have walks in the countryside and in town, including historical places of interest. The people I’d met had ended their walk that day with coffee and cake at St John’s – which is how they’d discovered Jo’s concert together.
Membership of Enbro is open to all adults aged 18 or over for just £7 per year. They have walks most days and some weekends too. If you’d like to try before you join, they also hold free public walks. You can find out more on their website and they have leaflets in both West Wickham and Hayes libraries.
Free gentle guided walks
Don’t forget there are also free guided woodland walks every other Wednesday afternoon (2pm) and every other Saturday morning (11am). Each walk offers people the chance to get some fresh air and take mental breather from the stresses of daily life.
The walks are open to:
- Anyone aged 60 and over
- Family caregivers (any age, due to any condition, with or without the person they care for)
- Bereaved carers (any age, due to any condition)
- People living with dementia
These walks always start and finish at The Railway Hotel pub, West Wickham, who kindly offer walkers a free cuppa afterwards. Find out more about the walks and sign up while we’ve got such lovely weather.
