Local residents have been in touch about the excessive number of cars parked on Layhams Road and the surrounding areas. With the football and rugby seasons restarting at Coney Hall Rec and Sparrows Den, this issue has become a problem again.
We have contacted our local councillors (again), and suggested that rather than deal with the parking in each local road individually, it would be beneficial to try to find a coordinated approach to cover all the roads. CHVRA member, Peter, offered to join a site visit, because if this issue is not addressed, we can foresee it becoming an ongoing problem throughout the coming months.
Councillor Josh Coldspring-White has said that he and his colleagues have raised this issue (specifically on Layhams Road) with the Portfolio Holder for Transport, Highways & Road Safety and chased him for an update recently.
Councillor Josh has also said that he will raise this with local police officers, and see if APCOA, the parking enforcement contractors, could undertake additional patrols in this area.
This has been an ongoing issue since the additional yellow lines were painted, which were insufficient to make the road safe. Hopefully the Portfolio Holder for Transport, Highways & Road Safety will find time to respond to the issue before there is an accident.
