It’s easy to believe the world is all doom ‘n’ gloom, especially when social media is so full of misinformation about life in London. But there are good things that happen quietly in our neighbourhood.
So this is a quick shoutout to the people who help out, volunteer as part of a group, or just quietly get on with making Coney Hall a better place to be.
The litter pickers on Layhams Road – we’ve spotted the purple bags waiting for collection! Thank you for making the park and surrounding area a nicer place for adults and children to walk and play.

The volunteers at Well Wood – led by Tom Thorn, the volunteers meet on the 3rd Saturday of the month for 2 to 3 hours, to carry out tasks that benefit and enhance the wood for wildlife and visitors. Thank you for all your hard work supporting the wellbeing of the wood.
• Their next three sessions are 19 September, 17 October, 21 November. Join them at 10am, Well Wood, Layhams Road car park.
The ex-CHVRA members – who have kindly both painted over and scrubbed off graffiti in the area at various times. Thank you for rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck in.
• If you see graffiti, feel free to do the same, or report it to www.fixmystreet.com
The members of EACH (Environmental Action Coney Hall) – led by Sarah Chant – who do a great job of caring for the community orchard, litter picking, and bringing the community together. Thank you for making Coney Hall a nicer place for wildlife.
• If you’d like to join EACH, contact us and we’ll pass your information on.
We know there are more of you out there – that’s the problem with unsung heroes, they often hide in plain sight. If you think someone deserves a thank you for the local work they do, let us know.
