Know your numbers: blood pressure check

On Thursday 10 September, from 10am to 2pm you can get your blood pressure and pulse checked for free at Bromley Football Club, The CopperJax Community Stadium, Hayes Lane, Bromley, BR2 9EF.

It’s part of ‘Know your Numbers Week’, planned to help Bromley residents look after their health. A blood pressure check is quick and simple. Blood Pressure UK believe that every adult in the UK should know their blood pressure numbers in the same way they know their height and weight.

“Knowing your numbers gives you the chance to act early and make changes that can protect your heart and help you stay well for longer. Small steps, such as moving more, eating well or getting the right advice, can add up to a real difference.”

They’ve even shared some numbers of their own:

  • 120/80 – An ideal blood pressure is under 120/80mmHg.
  • 6 million – 6 million people in the UK have high blood pressure and don’t know it.
  • 350 – Every day in the UK, 350 people have a stroke or heart attack that could have been prevented

There are three different paces you can go to get the checkup. Bromley Football Club is the closest to Coney Hall:

  • Monday 7 September, 10am to 2pm
Cranley Parade, Beaconsfield Road, Mottingham, SE9 4DZ
  • Thursday 10 September, 10am to 2pm
Bromley Football Club, The CopperJax Community Stadium, Hayes Lane, Bromley, BR2 9EF
  • Friday 11 September, 9am to 3pm
Empire Square, Penge High Street, SE20 7EX

If you are unable to attend the event but still want to know your numbers, you can ask your local community pharmacy or GP practice about blood pressure checks. Information is also available on the NHS website for people who want to monitor their blood pressure at home.
