Understanding climate change: save the date

In the face of this current drought, and with another heatwave looming, lots of people have questions about climate change. Is it real, should we do something about it, and if so what – and whose responsibility is it anyway?

Sarah Chant from Environmental Action Coney Hall (EACH) is inviting you to an evening of film and discussion, in the hope of finding some answers.

In conjunction with St John’s church, we would like to invite you to a screening of the National Emergency Briefing on climate change film at our local church, St John’s, Layhams Rd, Coney Hall on Saturday 12 September at 7pm.

The film was shown to MPs as an emergency briefing about Climate change. In it, Chris Packham acts as an interviewer and speaks to academics with a wide range of expertise – from climate scientists and meteorologists to doctors and emergency service workers who explain how the fast changing climate is affecting our lives now.

It is informative and certainly encourages a sense of urgency. However, it also offers solutions. We can act on a local level but it is clear that we need to lobby our politicians to act on a national level. The film is not party political. The climate emergency is a cross party issue and one that affects us all whatever our political allegiances.

After the 50 minute film, there will be an opportunity to share ideas and observations as well as ask questions. We have invited our MP and our councillors but we are not acting on behalf of a political party. We are an environmental group aligned with other groups such as Well Wood volunteers and Friends of the Park. We are not experts and we are not trying to impose our beliefs on others. We are providing a safe space to examine our feelings about climate change, to learn facts and what we can do to encourage action on a national scale.

We do hope you can come. Reserve your seat and save your spot.
