Jo Bega is a local resident and CEO of Child Rescue Nepal – a UK charity that rescues children from trafficking and forced labour in Nepal. Last year alone, the charity rescued over 60 children from truly awful situations, supporting them back into education and all the way into independent adulthood. In its 25-year history it has rescued over 1,000 children.
Every year Jo sets herself a fundraising challenge. She’s swum two miles in the Serpentine, walked 100 miles in flip flops and run the London Marathon. This year, as she marks ten years leading the charity, she’s going bigger than ever.
On Thursday 18 June at 7am, Jo is hosting a 24-hour live concert at St John’s Church on Layhams Road – and she won’t be stopping until 7am on Friday 19 June. There will be live musicians performing in person and joining remotely from around the country, and the whole event will be streamed live on YouTube.
An incredibly generous donor has pledged to match every pound raised up to £5,000 – meaning the concert could raise £10,000 for the children of Nepal.
Jo would love local people to come along – even for an hour or two – to be part of the audience and enjoy the music. She’s also looking for a little tech support and help with the practicalities of keeping a 24-hour event running. If you can help, do get in touch, and we’ll pass the message on.
You can sponsor Jo at her JustGiving page – and remember, every donation up to £5,000 is doubled. 🎵
