Friends of St George’s RAF Chapel of Remembrance in Biggin Hill often arrange outings to places of interest. Everyone is welcome – you don’t need an RAF connection.
Their next outing is a trip to Peterborough Cathedral for the exhibition of The Longest Yarn Two. The Longest Yarn is a unique knitted and crocheted exhibition telling the story of World War II through wool. From D-Day and the Battle of Britain to life on the Home Front, each scene has been researched, designed, and created by volunteers across the world, uncovering forgotten wartime stories and honouring those who lived them.
The Longest Yarn One told the story of D-Day and the Normandy landings. The second part is a study of Britain from 3 September 1939 to VE Day, 8 May 1945. Covering aspects of life including rationing, evacuees, the blitz, the headlines during Britain’s darkest hour and finally, the euphoria of peace.
This is more than an exhibition – it’s bringing people together through shared history and craftsmanship; it’s teaching the stories of WWII in a tangible, memorable way; and it’s raising funds for veteran charities while honouring their legacy.
