Since the latest issue of the CHVRA newsletter landed on people’s doormats, we’ve had some lovely feedback. It’s great to hear that people are reading and enjoying it, and it’s helping people to feel more like they’re part of a community.
As we mentioned in the newsletter, we’d like to talk about whether we continue with the printed issues at our AGM on 26 May. Ahead of that, we thought it would be useful to talk about what goes into the newsletter and the help we’re looking for.
We need help with the advertising
Advertising keeps the printed newsletter free for everyone. We don’t make a profit, we advertise to cover our costs and to promote local businesses, giving everyone in Coney Hall a chance to support our local economy. Our advertising rates are extremely reasonable, and we can also help small businesses with their ad design.
As we plan each issue, we need someone to contact the businesses that already advertise with us and to speak to potential new advertisers. Once the issue has gone to print, you’ll follow up to confirm the payment has gone through. It doesn’t take long, you’ll be supported and we’re here to explain how everything works.
We need help with articles
You don’t have to be an award-winning writer, or even a writer at all. You just need some enthusiasm and something interesting to say!
Whether you’re young, old or somewhere in between, you could write about your life here in Coney Hall, a hobby or volunteer group you belong to, a charity you’re actively supporting, something about the local area or local history. Write the article and we can help you edit it into shape.
If you’ve got something in mind but you’re not sure whether it’s the right thing, just let us know. And if it doesn’t fit in the printed issue, or you want to get the word out sooner, we have space on this website, and we’re always looking for new things to publish.
We need help with the distribution
Thanks to committee member Peter who collected the issues from the printer and distributed them to our brilliant band of volunteers, we got this issue out to everyone. But we could use a bit more help with this too.
The pros and cons of a printed newsletter
As we’ve said, the newsletter can be hard work for a small group of people who are already working in full time jobs. But it wouldn’t take a lot more support to make this a whole lot easier.
We think the printed issue is a beneficial thing to do, because we’re a diverse community. From children to older residents, most people can access a printed newsletter. There’s no gadgets or devices and no technology blocking the way. We believe that’s important.
So it’s in your hands. We love doing it, but we can’t do it without your help. Come to the AGM for a chat, or contact us if you have any comments you’d prefer to send by email.
We understand the AGM is during half term
We’re sorry about the clash and we do know this makes it difficult for parents and carers. We’ll try and keep the AGM as short and productive as we can – if you can make it, we’d love to see you there.
