Progress on Bromley Central Library

Bromley Council is relocating Bromley Central Library to a new site on the high street. You may have seen the information panels around the former Top Shop site. Now, Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal Recreation and Housing has released a video showing how work is progressing.

The new library is set to open later this year. In the meantime, the current Central Library next to the Churchill Theatre will remain open until after the school exams this summer.

The new library will include an expanded children’s library, modern study areas and new toilets including accessible and Changing Places toilets. A central atrium will provide flexible seating and there will be a variety of study areas on the first floor, with more interactive library space for children on the ground floor. The Bromley Historic Collection will also be housed in the new library, and the collection on display will be revitalised to celebrate the best of Bromley’s heritage.

The library works are being delivered by contractor Fado Construction. Once completed, the new library will be run by Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), the charitable social enterprise who operate all Bromley’s libraries, including our local library at West Wickham.
