For those of you who subscribe to the Councillors’ newsletter, you’ll see they’ve mentioned the extension of the double yellow lines in Layhams Road. These yellow lines have been a long time coming – and as several of you have contacted us to say – they’re still not right.
The new yellow lines have created two pockets of dangerous parking, the first close to the pedestrian crossing:

And the second on the blind bend…

Which means it continues to be unsafe when there is oncoming traffic:

More people are also choosing to park close to the junction, which makes it dangerous for traffic turning in to Layhams Road.

We’ve taken photos to share with the councillors so they can see the issue. It seems that these lines were painted without a thorough review of the road or an understanding of the way the situation changes throughout the week. We’ll also raise this with the Safer Neighbourhoods Panel.
We know this is disappointing – we’ll keep you updated.
Note: while these cars are a hazard they are not illegally parked, which is why we’ve removed their number plates.
