Dates for your diary: EACH Open Gardens + more

At this time of year (and with all this rain), it’s nice to have things to look forward to, so here’s a few dates for your diary.

This year’s Open Gardens event in Coney Hall will be held on Sunday 7 June. Organised by the brilliant folks at EACH (Environmental Action Coney Hall) it’s a fantastic opportunity to look at the ways people in Coney Hall are making their gardens not only beautiful, but welcoming habitats for wildlife.

Last year’s event was a lot of fun – lovely weather, beautiful gardens, and a great way for people in Coney Hall to get together. Put the date in your calendar now, so you don’t miss it this year.

And don’t forget, EACH are holding a Community Orchard Wassail on 28 February, in the orchard in the park.

We’ve also heard from the lovely folk at Hayes Horticultural Society. As Hayes is right on our doorstep, we’re sharing some info from them too:

The Hayes Horticultural Society holds 4 seasonal shows during the year, along with an annual Plant and Craft sale in May. All events are held in The Hayes Village Hall, Hayes Street, BR2 7LH.

The seasonal shows are open to the public in the afternoon to view all the entries. They have classes for flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables, plus domestic, floral art, photographic and juniors. They also have a tea room for refreshments during the shows. Admission is just £1. They welcome both members and non-members to enter exhibits into the shows, and they have 2 judges on show days, who award points to the best exhibits in each class.

Their Spring show is on Saturday 21 March, opening 2.30pm. If you’re in the area, why not pop along to say hello, have a mooch around, and grab a cuppa.
