In the councillors latest newsletter and on their website, they’ve said that temporary road safety posters are going to be installed in Chestnut Avenue and Bourne Way to remind drivers to stick to the 30mph speed limit. It’s expected that the posters will be put up mid-February.
The councillors have said: “Experience shows that these posters are useful as a short-term, low-cost intervention. It is considered that they have a positive effect on driver and rider behaviour. The presence of these posters tends to result in a decrease in speed of around 2mph. After four months, road users get used to the posters and the benefit lessens, so the posters are then moved to a new location.”
This sounds like a useful, low-cost experiment, so we’ll watch with interest to see how things go.
Don’t forget, if you’re driving this week, there are roadworks on Addington Road.
