Safer Neighbourhoods Panel: update

CHVRA member Peter Hodges brings you an update from the Safer Neighbourhoods panel.

The Hayes & Coney Hall Ward Safer Neighbourhoods Panel held its quarterly meeting on the 24 September involving members of the local police team, a local councillor, the Senior Ranger for West Wickham Common and representatives of Hayes, Coney Hall and Keston residents.

A new sergeant has joined the team – PS Verity Haylett. The team now comprises Inspector Pryal, PS Haylett, PCs Justin Huff and Fran Miller – Lakin and PCSO Debra Pierce.

It was reported that during the last 3 months (5 June to 19 September) there were 39 fewer offences than the previous 3 months (23 February to 1 June) which represents a 5.7% reduction. Motor vehicle crime has reduced.

The team is aware of anti social behaviour in Coney Hall Recreation Ground and in the car park behind the shops in Station Approach, Hayes and will include both locations in their patrols.

It was mentioned that recently there has been an increase in cycling on West Wickham and Hayes Commons with cyclists riding at fast speeds. The Senior Ranger for West Wickham Common will monitor the situation and take appropriate action when necessary.

It was also mentioned that recently there has been increased substance usage on West Wickham Common. Now that the team has cycles, they will be able to patrol the off road areas more frequently.

Bourne Vale, Heathfield Road and Gates Green Road have been identified as roads to be monitored for speeding.

The team reported that their contact sessions held in Sponge Kitchens in Hayes have been well attended. They are looking for other locations in Coney Hall and Keston to hold sessions and will welcome suggestions.

The Panel agreed for the current priorities – Vehicle Crime, Anti Social Behaviour and Speeding to remain in place for the next 3 months.

The next Panel meeting will be held on 3 December. We’ll post a reminder on here nearer the time.
