Join Social Cinema Bromley for their film festival next week, at Wickham Theatre Centre, just off Corkscrew Hill. They’re showing three great films, there’s fresh-made pizza to buy and a fully stocked bar. Oh! And the Mayor and Mayoress of Bromley will be attending on the opening night.
Social Cinema Bromley is a cinema with community at its heart. In their own words:
“We recognised the power of cinema and film to bring people together and make connections with people. Film is so much more than just what’s projected on screen. You can be transported round the world, to the deepest oceans, the highest peaks… explore new fantastical worlds and experience more than you can ever imagine, all from the comfort of your chair. And you can do all of that with like minded people.”
“We don’t have reclining seats, we don’t have state of the art full surround sound and image immersion technology, but we do have a love of film, the friendliest welcome and the people who come to our films have a great time…”
Three great films
The film festival runs on 15, 16 and 17 July. Doors open at 6:30pm each night and the film starts at 7pm. Tickets are free, and there’s a suggested donation of £5 (or more!), if you are able to pay, which really helps towards running costs. Find out more and book your tickets in advance.
The address is:
Wickham Theatre Centre, Corkscrew Hill, West Wickham, Kent, BR4 9BA.
15 July: The Smallest Show on Earth
A 1957 British comedy, featuring a host of stars including Peter Sellers and Margaret Rutherford. The Radio Times said: “In praise of fleapits everywhere, this charming comedy will bring back happy memories for anyone who pines for the days when going to the pictures meant something more than being conveyor-belted in and out of a soulless multiplex”
16 July: Cinema Paradiso
Released in 1988 to critical acclaim, this film is regarded by many as a classic of world cinema. Set in a Sicilian town, it’s a beautifully shot coming of age film which centres on the friendship between a young boy and an aging projectionist.
17 July: Singin‘ in the Rain
An absolute classic, this is the 1952 American musical / romantic comedy, starring Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds. You won’t be required to dance, but we bet they wouldn’t mind if you sing along at times…
