Summer Reading Challenge at the library

We visited West Wickham’s new library – and it’s great. Not only does it have air conditioning (!) and lots of books, it also has:

  • bright airy open spaces, including a cafe
  • friendly staff
  • two event rooms available for hire
  • computers you can use – and printing facilities
  • a maker space (not open yet, but will have 3D printing and more)
  • a lovely, bright children’s library

If you’re in the area, do pop in. If you have children and you need another reason to stop by, how’s this? They’re taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge. Here’s what they’ve said about it…

This summer, give your child the chance to fall in love with reading! The Summer Reading Challenge created by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with public libraries is a FREE, fun packed way to keep kids reading and learning all summer long.

This year’s theme is Story Garden, where imagination blossoms and stories grow! Children will explore creativity, storytelling, and the magic of books through exciting activities and adventures.

Why join?

  • It’s FREE! Available at local libraries in Bromley (including West Wickham)
  • Inspires a lifelong love of reading
  • Boosts confidence, creativity and imagination
  • Earn rewards, certificates and prizes
  • Fun for the whole family. Visit your local library together
  • 95% of children said they read more after joining!
  • Children choose their own books to read over the summer, collect rewards for each milestone they reach, and receive a certificate or medal when they complete the challenge.

This sounds brilliant to us! The library has more events planned, and they’ll start publicising them later in the summer – they mentioned a knit & natter club on Friday afternoons, and more events for adults, so if you’re in the area, do drop in and check it out. Now we’ve got such a valuable space, we should definitely make the most of it.
