No news on double yellow lines for Layhams

As many of you know, towards the bottom of Coney Hall Park there are double yellow lines on Layhams Road which stop just as the road turns into a corner. On busy days, the number of parked cars here can leave drivers at risk, with no visibility of oncoming traffic. Back in February we were told that double yellow lines would be coming “within 6 to 8 weeks” which would make the road safer.

Now the sun is out, dangerous parking here has become even more of a problem, and residents have asked us for an update. Sadly the news is that there is no news. This is what we have been told:

  • A proposal was published at the end of April – no comments were received in objection.
  • The person who oversees the publication of the proposals has retired and someone new has taken this over, which seems to have caused delays.
  • The council is now in the process of making the Traffic Management Order (TMO) permanent, which will allow them to mark the lines on street.
  • The council is making arrangements with the contractors to ensure they are aware of the works required – there is no timeline available.

We’re sorry to report no news. We are fully aware of how dangerous this corner has become. All we can say is take the corner slowly.

Advice from the councillors is that should you have any concerns about cars parked dangerously on that section of road, you can log the incident, and the team will quickly respond.

If we hear any news about timelines, we will of course, let you know.
