Keep dogs on a lead around livestock

We’re lucky to live so close to the country. We’ve got woods, fields and even farms on our doorstep. As great as that is, it comes with a responsibility too. It’s important to keep your dogs on a lead around livestock: it protects the dog, the livestock and the community.

At this time of the year, cows are often pregnant. If a dog, out for a stroll with its owner, gets in with the cows or sheep (which has happened recently), it can cause havoc:

• The dog may attack the sheep
• The cows may stampede – which is dangerous for the dog and the owner, and runs the risk of a pregnant cow losing a calf

So when you’re out in the fields or walking by Rouse Farm, don’t forget: put your dog on the lead and keep everyone safe.
