A big thank you from St John’s

St John’s, the church just off Layhams Road, recently held a series of events in support of Christian Aid, including an Open Afternoon, and a plant sale. They got in touch to let us know how much they raised in total. So, in their words…

“A big thank you to everyone who supported Christian Aid Week in any way this year – by walking, helping at events, providing items and promises for sale and donating generously. We are delighted to tell you we raised a record £4101.50 (which increases to £4574.50 with gift aid). The breakdown for the different events is as follows:

  • London Walk, £665
  • Open Church, £693.67
  • Plant Sale, £386.39
  • Auction, £1999.50
  • Donations, £356.94

Christian Aid, with their partners Congcoop, will be able to use this support to provide training for farmers in Guatemala and protection from the effects of climate change and extreme poverty. Follow the link below for more information:

If you missed Christian Aid Week it is not too late to make a donation to our church envelope.

We also wanted to let you know that every Thursday, St John’s also holds an ‘Open Church’. It’s a time when people can explore the church and graveyard, usually with either a written guide or someone who can take you round. Tea and coffee are available too.”

The CHVRA website is here to promote all the events that are going on in and around Coney Hall. So whether you’re raising money for a good cause (of any faith or none), putting on a musical, holding jumble sale, starting a board game club or a knit & natter night, let us know. We’d love to spread the word to other people in the community too.
