West Wickham Leisure Centre to reopen in 2028

For anyone who’s been watching and waiting to see what will happen to West Wickham Leisure Centre, the council has released more information. They hope to start work to a revised plan in early this summer and the site and is now expected to reopen in early 2028.

After removing asbestos from the site, they reassessed the building and structure. As part of the building was determined to be beyond economic repair, the team submitted a proposal for a new building which is expected to include a café, gym, competition-length pool, reception and changing rooms. It also includes a retro fit of the learner pool.

Although the new plans have yet to be approved, the hope is that the rebuild will give greater long-term certainty and minimise future maintenance costs.

They’ll publish a demolition notice shortly, which is part of the official process. The plans are then subject to final approval at the Council meeting in July, with the proposals published as part of the council’s committee process
