More info on the upcoming roadworks in Biggin Hill

Much like water from a leaky pipe, information about the upcoming roadworks in Biggin Hill is dripping through. Work starts on 27 May – here’s more information about which roads will be affected when, and why…

To reduce leakage, lessen the likelihood of burst pipes and reduce impact to the water supply, Thames Water are investing £5m to replace 3.9km of clean water pipe on Main Road, Biggin Hill.

  • The new plastic pipes are much stronger than the cast-iron pipes they replace.
  • This will provide a more reliable water supply by reducing the risk of disruptive burst pipes.
  • By reducing leakage, they will need to take less water from the environment.
  • The new, long-lasting pipes will help ensure a reliable service.

Work will start from 10am on Tuesday 27 May 2025 with the scheme expected to be completed by September 2027. They will be working 6 days a week, Monday to Saturday.

The work will start on Main Road from the roundabout junction of Downe Road, working towards the roundabout junction of Churchill Way. To minimise disruption, they will complete these works in 200 metre phases.

  • Lane closures and multi-way traffic lights will be set up in phases throughout these works. Traffic lights will be manually operated weekdays during peak times to manage the flow of traffic and ease congestion.
  • A road closure will be set up on Blackness Lane at the junction of Jackass
Lane/Church Road. Access will be maintained for residents. A diversion route will be signposted. This will be in place for approx. 18 weeks.
  • At times throughout the works, they will put parking restrictions in place. Look out for signs that will go up around restricted parking areas.
  • TfL/Buses will continue to run their service as normal. For more information, visit www.tfl.gov.uk
