Good news! Bromley PANDAS is a peer-to-peer group that supports expectant and new parents struggling with their mental health – and they’ve just received a £150 donation from the Co-op community fund. The Co-op fund works together in partnership with thousands of local causes every year to help create sustainable futures for people and the planet. Local mum Ellie, who runs the Bromley PANDAS group, said:
“Each branch of Co-op can give a community donation of up to £250 to eligible causes in the community. I heard about this through a friend and wrote to Karen, the manager of Co-op Coney Hall, to tell her about Bromley PANDAS and to ask if we would be eligible for a donation. We were given £150 and I picked up the cheque today!”
Bromley PANDAS meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 7pm to 8:30pm at SJ’s, 56 Croydon Road, Coney Hall. The next meet up is on Tuesday 13 May.
You can read more about what prompted Ellie to start the group, and if you’d like to go but want to know more first, visit Bromley PANDAS Facebook page where Ellie explains what to expect.
Ellie says that she will use the donation to purchase some equipment and materials for a stand that she can use at local community events to help spread the word. Her first event will be at WickStock Family Festival at Wickham Common Primary School on 12 July, so do look out for her there and show her your support.
Postnatal depression (PND) is a common problem that occurs after pregnancy and affects more than 1 in 10 women within a year of giving birth. It can also affect dads and partners. So it’s important to let people know that support is available: you don’t have to struggle alone. Bromley PANDAS is part of the PANDAS Foundation, visit their website to find out more about PND and the other types of support available.
