Thank you again, to Dennis, our previous president

If you’ve read the newsletter or the notes from the AGM last week, you’ll have seen that Dennis Moor, Chair and President of CHVRA has now stood down from the committee. While the committee decides what to do next, they will share his responsibilities between them. For those who couldn’t make the AGM, I thought you might like to read the words shared by Stella Etheridge, another long-standing member of the committee. Here’s what she had to say on the evening…

“Before you go, I’d like to take up a little more of your time if I may to say a public and collective “Thank you” to our retiring chairman for all he has helped to do over the years in order to maintain and often improve our locality.

Most of us have a mere 24 hours in our day, Dennis, we decided, must have 48 in his to accomplish all he does and has done for our community. As an ordained member of the Church, his duties require him to frequently travel around the South East rubbing shoulders with the great and the good amongst his Cathedral acquaintances.

As a Hospital Chaplin he is regularly called upon to visit patients administering company, comfort or consolation. He could well be known as Mr. Assembly Rooms having, over time, guided the fledgling Coney Hall Trust towards the thriving enterprise it is today.

But tonight is all about his dedication to the Residents’ Association, his unfailing guidance and support and his determination not to let it go. And believe me, there have been times when that has nearly happened.

Regretfully the days of the Parish Dance, Children’s parties, the Annual Pantomime, the Village Fair, the May Queen, are past. Times have changed, peoples’ priorities have changed, for better or worse we’re into the Digital Age and your Residents’ Association has had to change too.

But the foundations laid down by the likes of Dennis are strong and hopefully our Association will continue to be considered relevant and worthwhile.

Thank you, Dennis, for all your hard work and support over the years. You will be missed!”
