Bromley council have been running a library repair programme. A two year project with a £10 million budget*, it includes our local libraries at West Wickham and Hayes.
For those willing and able to travel, Beckenham Library is reopening on Wednesday 5 February, with residents invited to join festivities to mark the occasion, between 11am and 1pm. As well as complimentary refreshments, event attendees will be able to enjoy children’s crafts and view the changes to the library space.
The library will be officially reopened with a ribbon cutting ceremony by the Mayor of Bromley, Cllr David Jeffreys and Baroness Floella Benjamin.
Improvements to Beckenham Library include:
- a new customer toilet with baby changing facilities
- new windows and improved electrics
- reinstating the original art deco entrance and restoring the original parquet flooring in the study room
- additional study space
As you may know, West Wickham Library currently has a temporary home in an iconic building in Coney Hall. The council have said that the new building in West Wickham is set to reopen to the public in April 2025.
*Some pages on the council website list the budget for refurbishment as £10 million, and on others, £11 million.
