Bromley’s new Civic Centre officially opens to residents Tuesday 17 December. Churchill Court sits on Westmoreland Road in Bromley town centre. We’ve been told that Customer Service teams will be on hand from Monday 16 December to deal with enquiries. Booked appointments will take place from Tuesday.
Visiting the new Civic Centre
The main reception is on the high street, opposite the Police Station and near Bromley South train station.
Don’t forget, Britannia Parking are issuing parking fines to anyone parking or waiting in the road that leads from Bromley high street to the Waitrose car park. If you are driving, the closest car park to Churchill Court is the St Mark’s underground car park, with various on-street parking bays available nearby. Parking is also available at the multi-storey Civic Centre car park at Stockwell Close across the road from the Glades.
What happens at the Civic Centre?
The Civic Centre houses the Council Chamber where all council committee meetings are held. The building is also the workplace for Bromley council staff.
A new Health and Wellbeing Centre will also open soon, including a GP surgery, bringing a range of healthcare services to the heart of the town centre. It will also house the register office: bookings for weddings and civil partnerships will open soon, with the new venue having capacity for around 50 guests.
What’s happening to the old Civic Centre?
The old Civic Centre at Stockwell Close has been sold and formally closes on Friday 13 December. Both the Lib Dems and Labour questioned the sale, which the Conservatives have said are “set to deliver long-term savings and improvements in service for council taxpayers.”
The Bishop’s Palace forms part of the old Civic Centre site and is Grade II listed, which means strict planning restrictions and regulations are in place to preserve its historical significance. Friends of Bromley Town Parks & Gardens are campaigning for continued access to the grounds – this article is from October 2024, and shows images of the grounds and gives a bit more info.
